The basic task of deen hefazat: establishment of Sunnah and prevention of innovation

Not only Islam, but any Shariah and religion that has come down from the sky, if it is to be saved from corruption, there are two essential tasks: 1.  To follow the Sunnah of the concerned Prophet i.e. the Tariqah which he has taught in order to implement the commands of Allah.  So that nothing is left out of it.  Two.  Not to follow him by going outside of the Sunnah presented by him and inventing any way according to his own whims and fancies.  As long as the ummah of every Prophet followed the above two principles, misguidance could not touch them.  On the other hand, when they started neglecting to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet and followed it by doing good deeds as someone's wish and pleasure, then they deviated from guidance.  In the Holy Qur'an, Allah Ta'ala himself says:

 فَخَلَفَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ اَضَاعُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَ اتَّبَعُوا الشَّهَوٰتِ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّاۙ۝۵

After them came a group of false followers who broke the prayer and followed whims.  So they will soon witness the punishment of evil deeds.  - Surah Maryam 19:59

This verse indicates that the later followers should have retained intact the talim of prayer that the Prophet had given.  But they did not hold unaltered;  Instead, it ruined it.  They should not have created new things like khayesh and khayal-khushi and added to it, but they followed only khayal-khushi, as a result they are false followers of the words of Allah Ta'ala;  Rather, it was considered appropriate to punish the misdeeds. The verse indicates a principle that two things are necessary to preserve any religion: one.  Upholding and establishing the Sunnah of the Prophet.  Two.  Not to introduce any new way of innovation;  rather prevent.  It is also understood that the more Sunnah is practiced in a religion, the more solid the foundation of that religion will be.  On the other hand, the more innovation is tolerated, the faster religion will depart.  This is why the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) drew the Ummah's special attention to the above two things before his death.  He instructed the Ummah to be firm and firm on the Sunnah and to completely abandon Bid'ah.

It is mentioned in the hadith -

Hazrat Irbaz Ibn Saria RA.  described from  He said, Then the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: I command you to fear Allah.  You will listen and obey the orders of your leaders.  Even if that leader is a negro slave.  And those of you who are alive after me will soon see the various differences among the Ummah.(Different types of innovation, class divisions are keeping the ummah divided) At this time, what you should do is that you hold my Sunnah and the Sunnah of my guided caliphs with a firm hand and bite them with the help of your gums.  Be careful!  Stay away from new ways and methods.  Because every newly invented way is innovation.  And every innovation is misguidance.  In another narration, and the end of every misguidance is hell.  - Jame Tirmidhi b.  2, p.  92;  Sunan Abu Dawud b.  2, p.  279;  Sunan Ibn Majah p.  75;  Musnad Daremi p.  26;  Musnad Ahmad b.  4, p.  27

Sahabi Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA.  Says - In the Farewell Hajj speech, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

ایا ایها ناس!  إني قد تركت فيكم ما إن عتيسمتم به فلن دسلوا عبدا : كتاب الله وسنة نابيه

O people!  I am leaving you with two things that if you hold fast to these two things the misguided will never be able to touch you.  The two things are the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet.  -Almustadrak b.  1, p.  93

Hazrat Jabir RA.  described from  He said, The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said in a speech, "The best words are those mentioned in the Book of Allah."  The best guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).  And the worst thing is the new thing created in religion.  All innovations are misguidance.
